Kia ora, Welcome, Céad Mile Fáilte – you are so very welcome to this storehouse of some of the Clann O’Dochartaigh stories.

People of Irish origin live all over the planet, around 70 million of us they say, collectively we are known as the Irish Diaspora.

How we came to live where we do, our relationship back to the land of origin, our sense of identity and belonging, how we pass these treasures to our young ones – these are the essence of Walking to Donegal.

Who am I? Where am I from? Who do I belong to? Why am I like I am?

Walking to Donegal is both a journey and a destination: the adventure of collecting our stories of identity and belonging; and the storehouse we are building.

Meet the creators, Jack Doherty and Sarah Doherty, in the About section.

The Blog is our journal of the adventures we have while we collect and tell the stories.

In the Stories section you’ll find family (whānau), extended family (hapū) and clan (iwi) stories.

Stories take place, they happen somewhere. We have located the stories using Story Maps.

You are very welcome to join us on our journey from Aotearoa, New Zealand to Donegal, Ireland, as we discover and share our stories.

Our hope is that by sharing our adventures, you will find some inspiration for your journey of identity and belonging.

And if you are O’Dochartaigh – well then you are doubly welcome!
